Hmm. So it seems, that they were including e_os.h to get hold of
  OPENSSL_CONF
I have not yet touched the config-file setup at all, but it seems that
there now (starting with 0.9.7) is
  conf.h:char *CONF_get1_default_config_file(void);
available...
