I don't argue that it isn't possible, I have done it this way. What I am saying is that I have not seen any instructions on enabling/disabling points of compression. I had to poke around to find the flag because I could not understand what I was missing. Besides there aren't many people who seem to be using ECC yet, so a simple google search won't help in this matter.
I would suggest adding this flag to the INSTALL file or somewhere where we could easily find it. The FAQ does not mention anything about ECC support either. Is this a documentation/patent issue?

I do believe all certificates I have have compressed points. I will not go into the debate which is standard or not, but I would suggest having an option to enable point compression more user friendly. Can you tell me
