Thanks for the reply. I took a look on the www.openssl.org web site
and am having some difficulty figuring out who or what RT is.  Can you
provide a hint please?

The easiest way is to send something to RT, see the OpenSSL website for
details. That way it is less likely to be overlooked.

Your proposed changes sound reasonable to me, if you can generate a diff and
send it to RT it will be reviewed in due course.
