At this point we're moving into openssl-users territory ...

For RSA operations, which are costly and fixed-size, it's an obvious win. 
If you can do it a non-blocking mode, it also free's up the main CPU to go 
do more "real work."  But even if not, it's possible to drive cards like 
the Cavium Nitrox to a couple of thousand RSA connections per second. It's 
hard to have a commodity CPU do that and have any cycles for anything 
else.
