Dear OpenSSL community,

I was made aware that Ulf Möller (Ulf Moeller) used to be a regular contributor
to OpenSSL. I have the terrible news that Ulf was murdered past week.

Ulf had planned to do a long journey to southeast Asia with the intent to spend
a couple of months there. He had been en route from Munich to his parents near
Hamburg with a delivery van in order to store his belongings at their house,
when he disappeared in the night of Mon, 09 Jan 2012. Apparently, he fell
victim to a hold-up murder at or near a petrol station in Eastern Germany. His
body was found on Sun, 15 Jan nearby. Unfortunately, those responsible for his
death could not be identified as yet, but we are confident they eventually will
be. You may find further bits of information (in German language) by searching
for "ulf m" on Google News.

Although Ulf's name does not appear in the changelog later than 2005, I thought
that information on his passing might nevertheless be of concern to some of
you, even more so since he still is listed at http://www.openssl.org/about/

I was not a very close friend of his, yet I am staying in loose contact with
his brothers. Those of you who don't know anybody from his family may send
your condolences to my address ([email protected]). I'm collecting these
messages and will send them to his relatives as a bundle, with the intent to
minimize the number of messages sent to the grief-stricken family who seem to
wish to be mostly left in peace.

Alternatively, there also is a multi-lingual obituary for Ulf at the
OpenStreetMap project, where he had been very active in the past couple of
years:
http://blog.osmfoundation.org/2012/01/18/ulf-m%C3%B6ller-1973-2012/
Apparently, you can leave notes there without the need to create an account.

Sad regards,
Nils
