Indeed, I am replacing the default RSA method.
However, I don't do that or any of the engine setup and registration until
well after FIPS_mode_set(1).
I am familiar with how to replace the default RSA method or how to provide
the engine as the last parameter of some OpenSSL calls for finer grained
control. But I'm not familiar with specifying the engine for the use of a
particular key?

What function is used for associating my engine with a particluar key?
I'll reply back with the full stack trace, in a few minutes.

Thanks,
-Alan
