I just looked through the SM2 PR and apart from a need for rebase
(which is all about 'make update', so quite frankly, I think that can
fall on whoever merges...  I'm just tried, it took me 5 minutes).

I'm willing to approve it as it stands.  Everything that stung my eye
earlier has been changed to something a lot better.  The only thing
that still stings my eye is those public SM2 functions, but I would
see their removal as a fix, so...
