May be your MSIE5.0 is 512 bit RSA. Try this patch:

Subject: PKCS12 certs and NT 4.0
Hi,
I've been generating PKCS12 certs using openssl rel. 0.9.4.
Installation under Windows 2000 was straight forward.
Installation under Windows NT 4 ended with the following error message:
"Invalid input format".
Both Windows 2000 and NT 4 hosts run MSIE rel. 5
Any idea ?
I also edited the openssl.cnf file and set the default_bits parameter to 512
(1024 is the default value).
Unfortunatly openssl keep on generating certs with a 1024 bit private
key......
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Costantino Imbrauglio
