Sorry... I haven't been following this discussion, so forgive me if this is
totally irrelevant.
But I'll let you know what my experience with MS IIS and client certificates
is.
The root certificate must be installed on the server in a special way.
Otherwise the MS IE clients fail to show your personal certificates.
