Are there other commercial products than those from RSA?  I've never
heard of any, except for hardware stuff, but that's beside the point.

Well, one of the things is portability.  OpenSSL is available for
virtually any Unix, and also for VMS, Windows and MacOS.  And if it
doesn't work immediately, it can be ported to new platforms since the
source is available (making open-source a major detail, IMHO).  For
new Unix-like platforms, it's often trivial.  For other platforms, it
requires a bit of work, but not terribly much.

I'm sure others will give you arguments about speed, compliance with
standards and other stuff :-).
