Hello!

To be honest I know little to nothing about working with SSL. I am trying to learn so please be patient with me (if you can suggest any good reading material I would greatly appreciate it). I have been reading some of the info provided at the openssl website. Be since I am a newbie a lot is over my head. So please excuse me if this is a stupid question......

My hosting provider says they have openssl installed on the Apache server, yet we have to pay for a certificate from another company. Could any please explain to me why they have their customers do this?? Why the third party? I thought you could easily generate a certificate yourself with this program. I have shell access, is there anyway around paying someone else to make me a certificate?? I am a hands on person and would prefer to learn how to do it myself.

Thanks,
Webdeva
