Randomness and entropy

Title: Problem reading public file

I am going to be generating a series of around 1000 random numbers using OpenSSL. .Do I set the seed just once or multiple times or even once for each random number I generate. What is the theory behind this? Any pointer to information sources on randomness and entropy is also highly appreciated.   Thanks    -Prathaban
