You are likely to have a lot of grief trying to compile OpenSSL with
VC++ 1.52, thats a *very* old vesion. 

However if you've got visual studio 6.X haven't you got VC++ 6.0 too?
Maybe the older utilities are being picked up in your path somewhere.
