public key info

Hello,   I'm just not sure about something....say I generate a certificate (a signed cert request using a self signed cert) and the resulting certificate is newcert.pem.  Will this newcert.pem contain both a private and a public key?  If so, can I extract the public key contents from this .pem file?   I would appreciate some guidance on this.  Thank you all.   - H.
