Actually, on the server it should work "out of the box". Did you make
sure that the client offers the correct session to be used?
(Hint: ssldump is the tool to use)
For an example on server and client side session caching with an external
session cache: see my Postfix/TLS extension patch for the Postfix
mail transport agent available from my home page.
