OpenSSL 0.9.7 and on, as distributed by the OpenSSL team, is supported
on any Linux distribution on Itanium/x86. However, be careful about
"upgrading" the OpenSSL that comes with your distribution, there may
be incompatibilities. As far as I know, the OpenSSL distributed with
SLES8 has Itanium/x86 support.

For everyone: it's usually much safer to ask your Linux distributor if
their distribution of OpenSSL has the support you ask for, as many of
them use an older version and backport the stuff they need into it,
for backward binary compatibility. Of course, if you compile your
OpenSSL-dependent applications yourself, this is not an issue.
