Ted,

oops! you are right. i made such a silly mistake.
by default, Redhat Linux 7.3 installs openssl-0.6.3c.
and i didn't delete it.
now i delete old openssl and install new one again.
it works.
Thank you very much.

everyone,
I installed openssl openssl 0.9.8a on my Redhat Linux 7.3.
I want encrypt a file with AES 256.
in the command line below

openssl enc -e -aes-256-cbc -in plain.txt -out crypted

but, just got message 'unknown option -aes-256-cbc'

This works fine with my version of OpenSSL. Maybe your version was not
compiled with AES-support? What's the output of the "openssl ciphers"
command? What ciphers are listed in the usage message ("openssl enc help")?

Hope it helps.
