There are cryptographic routines in the linux kernel like symmetric
ciphers, hash, and some CRC functions.
It's part of the vanilla kernel and you can select them via config options.

I remember sometime back that someone had asked the lkml of an
in-kernel RSA and the response wasn't
favorable :)
