I can't reproduce your issue but it does depend critically on the amount of data transferred to reproduce it (which was why PR 1949 was do tricky to trace). Can you double check that swapping BIO_CTRL_PENDING and BIO_CTRL_WPENDING in modules/ssl/ssl_engine_io.c does NOT fix this?
