Well I'm not sure what caused that. I used exactly the same setup to produce
the recent 0.9.8w release and that is fine. Rerunning the distribution
commands again also produces an OK tarball.

I'll add a check to my scripts to double check the output tarball to ensure
this doesn't happen in future.
