I've recently made some changes to M2Crypto (a SWIG wrapper around OpenSSL for Python). The changes update M2Crypto such that it can be compiled and run on Windows without needing applink.c. M2Crypto's maintainer Matěj has reviewed the changes and was happy enough with them that he's pushed a release 0.29 this morning. At this time there has only been a few people actually look at the changes.
