Multi-attach also happens during VM migration: (attach volume to
destination host, move VM to destination host, detach volume from source
host). It's not clear if rbd's limitation affects this as well - it's
not clear from the bug report or the patch.

        Hello all,

        Per https://review.openstack.org/#/c/283695/
        <https://review.openstack.org/#/c/283695/> multi-attach was disabled
        for rbd volumes.

Does anyone know what features are missing or aren't compatible
        in rbd
        for it to support multi-attach?

        Thanks

Nova doesn't support multiattach volumes for any Cinder backend.
That's being worked by the Nova and Cinder teams but won't be
something that's implemented on the Nova side in the Ocata release,
and will be a stretch probably for Pike. There are weekly meetings
    about this though, see:

The live migration CI job runs Rbd-backed block live migration but we haven't yet enabled that for volume-backed live migration, but I thought that was possible, and was a big reason why a lot of deployments choose Ceph for storage, the ease of use for live migration. Timofey Durakov has been working on enabling the volume-backed live migration + Ceph storage in our CI jobs so he'd know more.
