Good explanation, thanks Vish. http://docs.openstack.org/diablo/openstack-compute/admin/content/configuring-flat-dhcp-networking.html has the --flat_interace requirement, and http://docs.openstack.org/diablo/openstack-compute/admin/content/configuring-vlan-networking.html describes the --vlan_interface requirement.
