No I do not want to install a complete desktop for a headless little thing. I want a "minimal system", and understand that as "only what I need". Either way the problem is broken dependencies in opensuse. Your suggestion is equivalent to "opensuse minimal system is so broken/useless/whatever just install the lot". That doesn't compete favourably with debian where IIRC such things just worked. I prefer fixing opensuse over switching to debian...
