Hi Alessio, I had to do that for the DE0-Nano-SoC cause no image after 15.0 was booting. zypper up was working like a charm all the way up from 15.0 to 15.2.
Only at some point I had to remove old kernel images manually since I was running out of space on a 4GB SD card.
