I would say it is clean, spartan and "professional", but hardly inspiring. It 
is a lot better than some previous versions and I think it looks good for the 
few seconds it is on screen - for the boot I also press Esc and watch what is 
going on - if I am at the machine...  Usually I switch on while cleaning my 
teeth, then come back when it has finished booting, give my username and 
password and then go and make the coffee; the wonders of having an office 
next to the bedroom :-P

And I *do* like the Grub screen with the blue-through-pink lizard, quirky, 
colourful and different :-)
