Around 9.x I had had the effect that I had a desktop icon for every flesystem (like /var, /tmp, /boot, /home, /usr, /opt, ...). I definitely don't want that. Up to 10.0 I have the problem in GNOME that such icons mostly appear "under" an existing icon, and thus are invisible (or mostly).
