I have complained to an official nvidia contact address about them not opening up their own network driver _from day 1_. They didn't seem to understand my point. They were all quick to recommend me the forcedeth driver, because they said it does everything that their driver does. I've also seen that Broadcom discontinued their own proprietary bcm5700 driver and are now supporting the opensource tg3 driver. So maybe some of them have started to see the light.
