Hello all

I downloaded and installed the latest Madiwifi drivers in order to see
if my Netgear WG511T (Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC
(rev 01)) card would work on a fresh install of RC1. (In case anyone is
interested my computer is a Thinkpad T40).

Being used to seting up my wireless network connection using the
"Traditonal Method with ifup" on SUSE 10, I gave that a shot first. The
bad news is that I had problems to get a wireless connection to work
'on boot'. I did manage to transfert 700 MEG file at 2.6-3.1 Megs/sec
if I configured it from the command line (using something like
"iwconfig ath0 essid XXXX; ifconfig ath0 up") but I never did get a
wireless connect to work 'on boot'.

Note: If anyone has managed to get a wireless network connection using
the "Traditonal Method with ifup" work automatically on startup please
let me know.

The good (great?) news is that when I opted for the "User controlled
with Network Manager" option (under Network Card/Network Setup Method)
is that my Netgear WG511T wireless card worked right off the bat (as
well as 'on boot').

What I found even more interesting is that, if I also configured my
"Ethernet controller" connection (e.g. both my "Netgear AR5212
802.11abg NIC" and my "Ethernet Controller" where setup and configured
as DHCP) I could use one or the other automatically.

If both the ethernet cable and wireless card were both plugged in,
Network manager would automatically use the ethernet cable connection.
If however, I unplugged the ethernet cable, "Network manager" would
automatically connect to Internet via the Atheros wireless card - 3 or 4
seconds later.

Final thoughts. I just thought I would mention (that despite the fact
that I dislike "more technology") that the "Network manager" is all and
all pretty cool :)

All comments, thoughts and wireless experiences welcomed.

Regards
James
