Simple would be just greeting message, and
Press Enter to start installation or F1 for help.
Let me guess, what windows user will do.
Press F1 to read what is going to happen, and be sure that Linux will
not overwrite Windows, as they know only windows behavior, where you
have to save your data before any (re)installation, so in 99.9% of cases
we will land on screen that will tell what to expect, and than another
"Press Enter". That is what you wanted to skip.
How to use selections on the bottom of the screen?
At that moment we don't have mouse, and we need some keys to activate
options.
Assuming that you know what means clueless (non-technical) user, and
than expanding that to his/her needs, is not good base to create start
menu. For instance:
Language:English
Additional word that tell me only that English is a language is just
redundant.
Resolution:1024x768
Resolution number xyz for non-technical users can have many meanings and
"screen resolution" is probably the last that will come in mind. Try to
ask your non-technical friends how they understand the screen and record
every question "what is this?".
Source:CD/DVD
Source of what?
- source of Force for StarWars fans,
- installation source for the SUSE fans,
- source of information for the rest of us.
I don't want to spoil your enthusiasm to bring SUSE closer to average
users, but for that you have to learn more how others are doing that.
Simple way would be to ask your friends, that never used Linux, what
they think about each of elements of the image. You should not provide
any explanations, but to prevent silent misunderstandings you have to
ask them what they think what an option will do, when they select it.
The options (wording) that needs the least extra help is the best.
It is not easy to achieve this goal.
