I've had the same issues in the past using the Windows version of VMware Server. Try copying the contents of the DVD to a smb (windows) share, download the netinstall CD and start the install. On the initial boot screen (right after all the 'Welcomes" don't forget to press F3 and then F4 to select from where the installation sources are. Either SMB or FTP. The 2 faster ftp sites I've found are: ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source ftp://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source However I would recommend getting the remastered DVD and copying it to a SMB share because this has all the patches already applied.

The CD booted properly, but when I clicked Installation, the screen came up, and some time later I got the "Make sure CD1 is in the drive" message. Clicking OK brought the message up again; clicking Back brought up the keyboard language dialog, then the install menu. Just for kicks, I tried the CD-check from the menu and it recognized the CD and pronounced it healthy. But the install would not proceed. All thoughts appreciated.
