I asked evolution to forget the passwords, and restarted it, without any progress.... tried a new installation, on an empty /home, and the same problem persists.

Here is the output from .xsession-errors:

A slightly unhelpful response perhaps, but it works for me.

Anything useful in .xsession-errors?
