Hey guys, isn't this whole discussion thread just a rehashing of the 1
cd intall with slick? I have said many times that I wished I could get
to a gui desktop with the first CD and add what I wanted after that.
It would be particularly nice on all my machines that still run a PIII
with 10 gig or smaller drive, and yes, I still have a stack of pc's with
4 gig drives and pII's too. I have already played with the different
versions of this idea i.e. super, slick and 1 cd and they all do things
I like.
I have had hopes that OpenSUSE would release a "1 cd install" version
that was close enough to SLED desktop in appearance to use it on my
PII's\ PIII's and build an application server to host extra's. In a
school network I have to image and repair machines during "production"
hours and I can't see any reason to load the whole distro when I could
just deliver application shortcuts to a stripped down version twice as
fast, much like I do now with W2k.
I know this will go over like a "Lead Balloon" but a Novell Gnome based
1 cd install would be a huge thing for me and I'm sure the state of
Indiana as well. Could this system include something like "sysprep" ?
since Novell wants system registration for patch subscriptions and
machine names for SMB compatibilty and I am sure lot's of people are
looking for an easy imaging solution, this would be real nice!
