Hi,

Actually, it should be safe to link it but your HTTP server needs to
support it. But that file should be, of course, at / directory of the
installation media by default.

Apache2:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#directory
Look for 'FollowSymLinks' option.
