The yast2-sshd RPM is part of the 'standard' openSUSE 10.3 repository so
I'd suggest this first:

* add http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/oss/
  repository to the used surces
* install the yast2-sshd package from it
* modify the package and use the 'make' magic
* if anything turns out to be wrong, just reinstall or remove the
  package (even if the files are modified, they'll get removed)

In my opinion, this is an acceptable solution, isn't it :)?

N-joy!
