Hi list,

On the weekend I started experimenting with the latest Factory tree again
(well: one release is done, development goes on, doesn't it?).

The upgrade of all packages went quiet flawless, just a single conflict here
and there, most of them could be sorted out. Nothing to worry about this. I did
not expect everything to go perfect... after all we're at a very early stage of
the next release cycle.

One thing which I would like to mention though, as it might not happen
everywhere, was an issue with the kernel:
As soon as the 2.6.23 kernel started up, I ended up with a unusable slow
system: the boot process took more than 20 minutes! (erm: wasn't 10.3 announced
to have a vastly improved boot time? We lost it quiet fast again).

I especially got errors with ACPI, Processor not installed (gee! Somebody stole
it?)
and it seemed like the HD driver was soaking slow.

After a long wait I had the system up (as I said, it must have taken 20 to 30
minutes, to runlevel 3), I reinstalled the kernel from 10.3 release and the
system works fine again now.

Somebody else already played with that kernel and experienced the same problem?
I think for a bug report I can only offer very vague details: as the system was
in a very, but very unusable state, I also do not have any logfiles.

Best regards,
Dominique
