The RMLL JGP success for us is really a Jimmy Pierre success. Jimmy is
with us from a great number of years, beginning to work with Novell
before Novell buy SuSE :-)
He is comming in most important french Linux event with lot of
laptops, network switch (including GSM router!), openSUSE T-Shits and
caps... and he is a true animator.
His membership application was rejected because he do not write much
and often advertise for his group (NUI - Novell Users International)
but we should really reconsidere this as he is very well known as
openSUSE fan and his group existed prior openSUSE :-) in France.
If he was not there my work would have been much harder!
So Jimmy provided the computer background.
However, the weather was half rainy (and then computer protected under
covers) or sunny (and latop computers unreadables).
We had large posters (good), but it's far from being attractive
enough. *we have to find some way to attract people*
We have to come on boots with some kind of gadgets, moving, flashing,
a "wow" effect *off screen*.
Happily, I was hosted in Strasbourg by "oeilvert" an openSUSE forum
moderator, and his main revenue is from embedded Linux hardware.
On the RMLL ground was a small modell car, running round, with a small
poster (RMLL) handed by a Tux. This was attractive and oeilvert took
contact with the builder of this car. I expect from them some result
in the near future.
But is some people here have ideas... I have some:
* one or two usb webcam making sort of Kinect for Linux, allowing the
public to move on screen moving the hand on front of them (not the
whole body, we don't have enough room), or better move some tux around
the computer (usb driven?) - may be play music without touching the
computer
* some linux embedded vehicule with webcam, able to follow a line on
the ground (or somebody!)
* ... ideally the gadget should be funny, attractive for children and
very cheap (to allow copying on openSUSE boots all around the world)
