You just quoted too less ;-)
The section where I mentioned this image was about arranging the 
language links, not about colors - and I never said I prefer the black 
background ;-)

Just have a look at http://wikipedia.org/ - they have positioned the 
language links with position:absolute (left/top with various values, 
specified in %). [1]

Placing the links in the corners is technically easier of course, but it 
looks terrible IMHO.

[1] I did not check the full HTML source, but at least verified that 
    positioning is done with CSS (and without tables)
