I assume that you are talking about the netapplet when you say that you only 
see the ethernet connection. The netapplet utility is what you need to use to 
switch between networks in gnome. If it is not being picked up in the 
netapplet utility then your wireless card has problems being picked up 
properly. What card do you have? What build are you on? I had this same 
problem with my Dell C610 laptop because it uses orinoco_cs, which broke in 
beta 4, but is now fixed.
