Hello,
I did some benchmarks on a 2.6Ghz Xeon and a Pegasos2-PPC using ab2
(apache bench) and sysbench (mysql) on SUSE Linux and Gentoo. On the
Xeon workstation there was not much difference, SUSE and Gentoo were
head to head, Gentoo usually (but not always) 5-10% faster.
The real supprise came the PPC platform: Gentoo was serving static
webpages about 2x faster, and sysbench was about 1.6-1.8 faster on
Gentoo. Is there any optimalisation in the SUSE packages? Gentoo
packages were compiled with the following CFLAGS in /etc/make.conf (this
Gentoo was preinstalled on my ODW, I just refreshed sources and rebuilt
it without changing settings):
CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe"
Bye,
Peter
