Hi Andrew, try editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf: There is a stanza "Modules". Add a line: Load "ddc" restart your X server and have a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. If your monitor is capable of DDC you should find lot's of usable modelines in the logfile.
