Hi there,
I currently try to update a machine from SuSE 9.3 (minimum installation
+ XEN 2) to SuSE 10.0 + XEN 3. I had some virtual machines running on
this system for about three month without major problems. After update
to SuSE 10.0 xend crashed when starting virtual machines with the old
kernel of SuSE 9.3 for the VM - not a nice behaviour but maybe
acceptable for an unfinished product.
Anyway - using the the current kernel of SuSE 10.0 I was able to boot
such a VM. The slight problem here: I'm not able to get the network
running in any of these VM's. eth0 is configured with a static IP as
before but no packet is going out, no packet is received. There is no
firewall active and after hours of searching the net I still have no
idea how to solve this problem. Maybe someone can give me a hint.
To check if this problem is related to SuSE 9.3 within the VM I tried to
install a SuSE 10.0 VM with the YaST Module. Ok, I had to install
yast-qt on a headless machine and forward a X11 display, I had to
install xterm, which seems to be needed by this module even when there
is no rpm dependency to the xterm RPM, but at the end all I get is a 1GB
sized disk image and a misconfigured config file for domain1. When I add
by hand the path to kernel and initrd file and start the VM, I end with
a console log which tells about a timeout when connecting to hda or
stopping short before telling about this. The last lines in xm console
are the following:
RAMDISK driver initialized: 16 RAM disks of 64000K size 1024 blocksize
loop: loaded (max 8 devices)
Xen virtual console successfully installed as tty1
Event-channel device installed.
Neither TPM-BE Domain nor INIT domain!
xen_blk: Initialising virtual block device driver
Registering block device major 3
hda:
I'm sure I'm missing something easy but it would be nice if someone
could tell me what it is.
Regards
Ralf
