Oh, and when you plug in a cf card, it is auto-mounted, but you can't "safely
remove" it because you are not root... and you have to su to umount it and
format it... I never liked subfs but I had hoped it had got better - will
have to deactivate that as well.
Is the system so stupid, or am I?

Usb and cf cards are mounted with sync so you can unplug it as soon as
you end with writing/reading.
