You would be amazed at how many people do this though. Happened where I work. New guy was tinkering with his computer and hot plugged his PS/2 mouse... it worked that once, but I saw him and said "Don't do that, it's not hot pluggable!!!" He didn't believe me... said he does it all the time at home and it works fine... he did it 3 more times just to "prove his point" and funny thing happened... he blew up his motherboard.
