hmmm, maybe the module is broken? What modules are shown up in the 
output of "lsmod"?

Did you try the HylaFAX driver?

Maybe. I have no FAX to test it. Search bugzilla and if you do not found 
anything, file a bugreport. (and please, do not top-post)
