I've been doing this for years, you must have missed something !

same as copying the full dvd content to eg : /srv/ftp/pub/suse/i386/10.0
or mount -tiso9660 -oloop path/to/image.iso /srv/ftp/pub/suse/i386/10.0/

Hi,

you can either use :

* DVD
* CD1
* Network install CD from iso (eg :
ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-stable/inst-source/boot/boot.iso
which is only 65 Mo to download).

To boot your PC from cd/dvd reader:

At the first menu screen, select "F3" then
"F4" that pop-up a menu : select either http or ftp, depending on the mirror you
intend tu use ;let say ftp for ftp4.gwdg.de
in Server : ftp4.gwdg.de then TAB
in Directory : pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-stable/inst-source/ then ENTER
then select "F2" to choose your language
then "INSTALLATION" from the main menu then ENTER

All this will work if :

* Your computer is attached to a network with proper gateway to the internet

* You have a properly configured dhcp server running.

 (most DSL Routers will do)

If 2nd point isnt ok, the install will fallback to a menu driven part of the
installation where you could enter proper information concerning your network
(Ip of your PC, netmask, gateway IP, dns IP) ...

* Your network device is recognized by hardware detection and load a correct
driver ...

If you don't have an internet gateway (eg only USB DSL adapter) just forget
about all this and download dvd iso ...

Good Luck
