Hi :)

KDE is what make SuSE a succes, most of the SuSE users are using KDE

I *DISAGREE* completely. It's not ONLY KDE that makes SUSE successful. I think SUSE's successful beacuase of:

- YaST, the closest thing to YaST is DrakConf and it still isn't as good. YaST is *NOT* just a nice GUI to *nix commands, it's a complete interface to manage the system (CIM). If you're an ISV you develop having YaST in mind and no need to figure where the conf file or .so is.

- development model/idea: it is SO simple to develop with SUSE (as a company). As long as your code/patch is good and useful ... it'll get in. When I used to work for SUSE I got to talk with a quite interesting ISV and asked why they preffered SUSE and not RH. His answer was: "Because it its so much easier to develop with SUSE, they listen to you and develop WITH you. RedHat looks at you over their shoulder". Now I'm at SGI and more or less get the same answer: "SUSE helps a lot when patching Linux to scale farther".

- Partner strategy: Red Hat goes to the end customer SUSE doesn't (unless it's a very big project, named accounts, ... stuff like that) this means it's quite more difficult to compete with SUSE in some tender or project. SUSE follows a Partner strategy.

        - German way of doing things ;)

I think that Novell makes the biggest mistake ever.

I agree at this point. I think they should stay with KDE. As I said in the other thread. I'm not worried, although it's sad :(

In any case, think that Linux desktop is not that stron yet so we've still got time to convince Novell ;)

It was something that would happen.
Just buy the whole thing out, change the winning formular and let it slowly bleed to dead.
Its only take some time now that the new users change to Mandriva or Linspire.
Probally at the end of 2006 SuSE will be a ghost from what it is now.
Its a pitty, its seems to me that Novell has no vision for the future.
:-(

I think this is a very dull way of living: just sit down and watch it "die". Heck!!! If you like SUSE + KDE: help keep it as a default desktop. Do as much as you can to promote KDE. For example: every time I install a KDE desktop to someone I select KDE solely, no GNOME. I talk about KDE all I can ... and now I'll be pestering SUSE ;)

This is what the OS Community is ALL ABOUT: helping and working together. Well let's DO SO.

0:) Ummmm ... I sound too much like a polititian ... guess I'd better stop now ;)
