It doesn't matter if it is FREE, costs $1000, if it plays MP3s, displays jpegs or edits text files, if the owner provides it to you under the agreement that you will not distribute it. Which is the case of RealPlayer, which then means that you are making copies without a license and in most countries (maybe not yours) would not be legal. As it so happens Real Networks does allow distribution on physical media of RealPlayer IF you contact Real Networks and agree to their DISTRIBUTION license, and yes it is FREE. http://www.real.com/licensing/faq.html All that said I would doubt very much that Real Networks would be actively chasing people across various jurisdictions distributing Real Player on CD without a license. How could they even claim damages in any courtcase?
