Not Novell anymore, it will be Debian... > > > > > > just search for 'german government linux' in a search engine. > > > > Even in the US: > > > > Massachusetts mandates open-format docs, edges toward Linux > > http://www.desktoplinux.com/news/NS3926478427.html > > THis makes me wonder: all governements starts with an 'M'... Who does know > an other character? Me does... :-)) County Friesland, Lower Saxony, Germany, (Landkreis Friesland, Niedersachsen). Migration of administration (Server, and Desktops untill 2007) and all schools (Server in a first run, Desktop if wanted) (exept one School who insists in MS-OS). But Novell lost this migration job in the beginning of this year. Now the migration is done by Peter Ganten, Univention Bremen, Debian of course. And, according to a parliamentary enquiry [1] in 2004 by Ralf Briese, Member of Parliament Lower Saxony, Green party (Grüne), there are more than 13.000 Linux Machines running in lower saxony state authorities. So in the state police agency (Landespolizeibehörden), Wasserwirtschaftsämter (sorry no idea how to translate this, the agency which cares for the dykes and is responsible for the waterways) and others. And there are a lot of machines in county and city authorities which are not mentioned here. I would assume at least another 10.000 to 15.000 machines, this without schools.
