PPTP doesn't use port 1723 to pass the actual data, it does this with what is called IP Protocol 47. You generally want a router with specific PPTP pass-through. Have a look here: http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article49-page1.php I would bet that sticking PPTP and the manufacturer of your router in Google would give you some leads on how to set it up.
